How is Sky Angel received?
Sky Angel is received through a broadband Internet connection and small receiver box. The receiver connects easily to the A/V inputs on your TV set much like a DVD player or other digital TV service device like a satellite or cable box. The Sky Angel receiver is able to receive signal from a wireless router within your home. This is an advantage since most Internet routers are not in the same room as the living room TV. The technology does not require an outside dish or antenna, professionally installed equipment or a computer and affords a number of value-added services and conveniences, such as the ability to install the equipment simply and easily, to retrieve programs on our Faith Pak that have already aired up to 48 hours in the past and access to a growing Video On Demand library.
Is IPTV considered streaming?
IPTV, through advanced and proven technology, is not the same as what consumers might consider to be traditional web streaming and provides a real viewing experience on the TV.
What do I need to purchase and view Sky Angel IPTV?
You will need a high-speed Internet service with a recommended connection speed of 1.5 Mbps or greater. If you do not have high-speed Internet that matches this recommendation or if you currently do not have high-speed Internet, call our customer service center at 1-866-759-2448 or contact your local cable or telephone company. Included with your high-speed Internet service is a cable or DSL modem. In order to connect the Sky Angel receiver to your high-speed Internet cable or DSL modem, you will need a router, either wired or wireless. Some cable and DSL modems come combined with a router. Also needed: A TV with an available audio/video input; a Sky Angel receiver and a subscription to our service.
What is the minimum Internet connection speed required to watch the IPTV service?
We recommend a minimum high-speed Internet performance of 1500 kilobits download (1.5 megabit or 1.5 Mb) to purchase and view the Sky Angel service. Internet use such as downloading large files or playing bandwidth intensive online games within your home may require higher bandwidth in order to view Sky Angel and continue your normal Internet activity at the same time. When performing a speed test, please keep in mind that your results may vary at different times based on Internet traffic and home Internet use. To determine the Internet connection speed you are actually paying for, contact your Internet Service Provider and upgrade your connection speed if necessary.
What if the computer/router and television are not in the same room?
This is not a problem. All you have to do is simply purchase and install a wireless router that will send the signal from the broadband modem to the Sky Angel receiver, which is connected to the TV set. Other aftermarket devices such as Internet through the power lines (PlugLink) are also available. The following wireless routers have been highly reliable when using them with the Sky Angel service. These models are available at local electronic stores or can be purchased from many online retailers; Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G 54Mbps Broadband Router NETGEAR WGR614 Wireless-G 54Mbps Broadband Router D-Link WBR-1310 Wireless-G 54Mbps Broadband Router Router model numbers are subject to change or be replaced with newer models.
Are there some wireless routers that may not work with the Sky Angel IPTV service?
Yes, the following routers have had difficulty working with a Sky Angel receiver. If you have one of these routers, be advised it may not work. What options do I have when connecting the Sky Angel IPTV set-top box to my TV or VCR?
The Sky Angel receiver has three sets of outputs, Composite, S-video and Component. Only one output option is active at a time. Out of the box, the Composite and S-video outputs are active. If you are going to connect the receiver using component cables, (not included); you will have to change the settings in the Advanced Navigation Screen on the Sky Angel menu.
How easy is set up?
The receiver connects to the TV the same way a DVD player or satellite receiver does, through the audio/video inputs. The connection to the customer's high-speed Internet can be done through a wireless home network or an Ethernet cable connected directly to the receiver depending on what the viewer has and where they want the service to be viewed. The Sky Angel receiver is easy to install and a customer can be viewing programming in as little as 30 minutes providing their Internet connection is already in place. The receiver is shipped already authorized with the programming ready to be watched once connected to the viewer’s Internet and TV.
How easy is IPTV to use?
Much like a satellite receiver or cable box, a remote control is used to access the program the viewer wants to watch. The receiver box and remote are very user-friendly with a detailed on-screen menu and an Electronic Program Guide; viewers will be able to use the remote control to access an entire menu of selections aside from the TV and radio channels such as Video On Demand, Today's Weather and more. Support for most problems should be able to be completed by going to the Sky Angel Tech Support area at www.skyangel.com or by calling our contact center. All TV functions must be used by the Sky Angel remote control since the Sky Angel receiver has no channel control buttons or menu option. If you need a new remote control, please contact the Sky Angel Customer Service dept.
What if the Internet connection is briefly interrupted?
The Sky Angel receiver "remembers" a program for up to 10-60 seconds, allowing for uninterrupted viewing if the viewer’s Internet connection is restored within that time. There may be a slight “catch up” time, but we’ve found this to not overly distract from the viewing experience.
