Christian Satellite

Sky Angel was America’s first
Christian satellite company, established over 25 years ago. In 1980 Sky Angel’s founder, Robert W. Johnson, felt the need for a Christian-owned and controlled multi-channel television service capable of bypassing the “secular electronic media gatekeepers.” At this time, Johnson read an article about an emerging technology called high-power direct broadcast satellite. A true visionary and pioneer, Johnson was part of the initial round of high-power DBS license applicants in 1981. Establishing the first Christian satellite company would no longer be just a dream.
With little more than faith, Johnson formed his corporation and applied to the FCC for a DBS license alongside some of the world’s biggest corporate names including CBS, RCA and Western Union. Four years later Johnson was awarded a construction permit and launch authority from the FCC to establish a high-power Christian satellite service.
After many years of trials and disappointments, Sky Angel’s Christian satellite service was launched December 10, 1996; starting with six Christian satellite television networks and three radio networks. Sky Angel’s satellite service eventually expanded to 36 Christian satellite TV and radio channels.
Due to satellite failure in 2006, a significant number of
Christian satellite transponders were at risk, and finding a new delivery system was not an easy task – options were very limited. In order to for the company to move forward, Sky Angel made the decision to transition to a means of delivery called IPTV, Internet Protocol Television.
Delivery of service through the Internet is helping Sky Angel reach more people, be more diverse and more powerful than Christian satellite TV. It will give you more choices, more convenience and more control over the programs you allow into your home. In addition, Sky Angel features a 48-Hour Playback option on the faith-based TV channels, as well as Video-On-Demand. Internet Protocol Television eliminates the need for an outside dish or antenna (that’s required for satellite TV), professionally installed equipment or even a computer. Internet Protocol Television is a flexible, digital format that allows Sky Angel to deliver its programming service directly to viewers’ televisions through a simple high-speed Internet connection and receiver, unlike Christian satellite TV.
Transitioning from Christian satellite TV to IPTV opened the door for many more networks to come on board. Sky Angel now offers over 50 faith-based channels, carrying a variety of programming, all with your Christian values in mind. Another great feature on Sky Angel is our extensive Video On Demand library. Watch movies, documentaries, series, concerts, and so much more - on your schedule. Our newest addition to the VOD feature is Subscription Video On Demand. With any of our Subscription Video On Demand packages, you get unlimited access to your favorite programming for one low monthly fee. Also available is the 48-Hour Playback feature on its faith-based networks. This gives you the opportunity to access over three thousand Christian television programs at the touch of a button.
Christian satellite just another chapter in the amazing Sky Angel story!
Once again, Sky Angel is at the technological forefront – always keeping the original mission in mind of building and operating a global communications system to reach the world with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
