Movie Review: Stan Lee: With Great Power - VOD - Just Added

By Mason Goodknight May 14th, 2012

Are you a comic book fan? Or maybe you just like the movies like Spiderman, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, etc. If so then you’ll wanna see this documentary. This is the documentary of the life story of Stan Lee. The creator of all those characters above and many more! I use to collect tons of comics. I don’t anymore as I felt it wasn’t very good stewardship of my funds at the time. Yet I still love heroes.

Many of these heroes have made it into mine and many other sermon illustrations. While most comic heroes are not Christians most do fight against evil. There is usually a clear line of good versus evil. They give us something to cheer for. Stan has ben a Depression kid and a WW2 vet as well as a business man who’s been up and down through thick and thin. It really is an interesting story.

You will meet Stand and his wife of sixty years Joan. They love each other and have stuck it out through everything. You will also see many celebrity interviews and learn alot about Marvel Comics. Stan is 90yrs old this year and is still creating heroes and influencing culture. Sadly there is no indication that Stan is a Christian. It gave me the added blessing of praying for this man’s salvation. I of course hope he will come to repentance and faith in the only real super hero, Jesus Christ! Give it a look and enjoy!

The Wacky World of Bruce Barry!

By Robert Steffensen May 11th, 2012

I’ve always enjoyed watching renovating programs like “Extreme Makeover” or “Trading Spaces” probably because they make renovating look so cool and easy to do. When I try it myself…well that’s another story!  On the Liberty Channel, I found of a program called, “The Wacky World of Bruce Barry,” This guy, Bruce, transforms youth ministry facilities, annexes, playgrounds etc. from blah-blah-boring to a work of art!  Bruce has a full-service theming and design studio to boot; his 25,000 square foot facility is near Tampa, Florida, and he has a crew of more than 30 talented artists working along side of him.

“My objective is simple,” says Barry, “to create fun, exciting environments at any budget that fire you up and leave you captivated by your surroundings!”

This Emmy winning show might help you get those creative juices pumping inside once again!…. Now…. if I only had those really nifty tools that they use!

Sky Angel - My Daily Companion

By Janet Holland May 9th, 2012

I really don’t have anything new to highlight today, just wanted to say that I am thankful for Sky Angel. The programming is my daily companion, especially radio programs during weekday mornings and music in the evening and overnight. It’s a blessing to be able to listen to solid Bible teaching and a great mix of music, including traditional, country, southern gospel, and praise music. Definitely makes each day better!

Truth for Today with Dr. Neal Jackson - Fridays at 0230 on NRB

By Mason Goodknight May 7th, 2012

I was cruising through SkyAngel via the 48hr playback and stopped on NRB’s Truth for Today with Dr. Neal Jackson. I really enjoy how I can peruse hundreds of programs every day with 48hr playback! Dr. Jackson did agood job of encouraging folks to make sure they have a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

Dr. Jackson focussed on what a Chrsitian should look and behave like if indeed they are saved. He made sure to be clear that Christianity was more than saying a prayer or walking an isle. I enjoyed the service overall. It is a 30 minute program.

Dr. Jackson is animated and doesn’t stand still. He is excited abpout the word of God and it shows. While he moves around and is passionate I don’t want to make it sound like he’s wild as he’s not. He’s just got a Southern Baptist flair to him.

SO if you’re looking for some good Bible teaching this may be a stop for you. I look forward to seeing more.

The Way Of The Master

By Monica Cohee May 3rd, 2012

The Way Of The Master is a great way to evangelize the world.  When we pastored we had our church after training go out in teams of two.  They went door to door to reach out to our community using some similar tools.  Some people were receptive and other didn’t care but the key is they were all given the opportunity to hear about the Good News of Jesus Christ.

So I am excited to see “The Way Of The Master” on the VOD list and its free to watch.  I haven’t watched this one but I have viewed other ones they have made.  This is a great tool to reach the lost. After you watch it let me know what you think by commenting and I will comment after I watch it.

WWJD?

By Robert Steffensen May 2nd, 2012

Yesterday I noticed that the movie WWJD had been on TBN a few days ago. I have seen it listed in the VOD area before but we had yet to watch it. My son and I enjoyed watching it together last night. The story begins with a pastor suffering from a great tragedy and then moves ahead 3 years to show the town he lives in sinking into despair and apathy. The pastor is even depressed and listless. At just the right time a stranger shows up in town and shakes things up. Because of a dramatic meeting with this stranger an awakening of sorts takes place and the town is transformed in the process. All because 4 people decide to send everything they do through the filter of What Would Jesus Do? I will agree with Mason on his review of the sequel to this movie that it is a Hallmark quality film. There is one popular actor, John Schneider, and the rest are a little less polished. WWJD is a feel good movie and dose not have a super deep or complicated plot but it is worth a watch as a family movie.

The Woodcarver

By Lilly Ellison May 1st, 2012

Mathew Stevenson is a troubled kid who has quite school and run away because his parents are getting a divorce. He vandalizes the church  to get back at his parents. In order to avoid criminal charges he has to repair the damages. While working at the church he meets Ernest Otto who is a recluse because his wife died of cancer and he misses her. He and Mathew will work together to repair the damages. Ernest is an accomplished wood carver. The only way Mathew can stay with Ernest because the boy doesn’t want to be around his angry parents is that he must go back to school and before making any decisions he must ask himself, What Would Jesus Do? He agrees and his life begins to change in many ways. His family saw how leaving the church and God had destroyed their lives. They became a family of unity in Christ once again.
This is a wonderful movie and I would highly recommend it to everyone. It shows how Powerful Prayer and the Love of others can change your Life and bring healing to all.

Movie Review: The Woodcarver(WWJD2) - VOD - Just Added

By Mason Goodknight April 30th, 2012

This is a good clean family movie that focusses on God’s work in various different areas of our lives. Our main characters are Matthew the angry teen who vandalizes a local church because he believes God is a joke who has let his family fall apart. Ernest is the old wood carver who originally carved the intricate wood for the church Matthew destroyed.

The church has Matthew working to avoid criminal charges. Ernest is called on to fix the wood. Ernest is withdrawn and has had his own delusions about God since the death of his wife. The two unlikely people come together to work on the church and on each others relationships with God and man.

There is drama and deceit as well as a far to common picture of people far to interested in career to care about their marriage. In the end there is reconciliation and peace on all sides. It is a Hallmark level quality Christian film. The theology is not spot on or incredibly deep, yet it is foundationally good. We must seek our direction from Jesus and His word not the world or especially our own hearts. Good for a night on the couch with family. Enjoy!

Go for Broke!

By Jim Phelps April 28th, 2012

Go for Broke! is the story of the Japanese-American soldiers who fought for their country, America, in World War II.

The movie got its name from the motto of the group: “Go for broke”.

Their unit was called the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and in fact, former members of the 442nd made up part of the cast of the movie.

Japanese-Americans were recruited from Hawaii and from the Japanese internment camps in the United States to join the US Army.  Many joined to prove their loyalty to America.

The movie presents the prejudices that they faced, even from their platoon leader.  It also showed the heroism and great victories won by them.

This is a great movie; I highly recommend it.

You can read all about the 442nd at the following web site: http://www.goforbroke.org/default.asp

A Lone Star Miracle

By Michael McDonald April 27th, 2012

Nascar’s rising star Blake Koch has accomplished many feats in the two years that he has been competing on the Nascar Nationwide Circuit. Blake was able to win five top-25 finishes in his first 10 races as a professional. Despite Blake’s success, his career as a professional racecar driver is uncertain.

Blake Koch’s primary sponsor, Rise up and Vote, recently terminated their partnership with Koch after ESPN pulled what they viewed as a controversial ad laced with religious and political undertones that did not comply with the network’s corporate policies. Without a primary sponsor, Koch is unable to compete on the circuit, which put an upcoming race in Texas out of reach.

Blake’s faith was tested, and he prevailed, after gaining the attention of ChristianCinema.com, whose sponsorship allowed him to race in the O’ Reilly Auto Parts 300, at the Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas, TX.

“We’re excited to support Blake and his stand for his faith. This is a great opportunity to keep him racing and at the same time bring awareness about Christian movies that reflect Christian values,” said Bobby Downes, CEO of Christian Cinema.

The question remains, were the actions of ESPN personal or simply adhering to corporate policy? Comment below and give us your thoughts.
