How Sky Angel helps me to be a better mom…

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

When it comes to watching television, I usually don’t have lots of time to enjoy it so when I do indulge, I make sure it’s something that is truly worth my while. I’ve had Sky Angel in my home for about six months now and to say that I like it would not be entirely accurate. The truth is: I LOVE IT! I absolutely enjoy watching Sky Angel—not only because I am impressed with the programming, but because I get so much more than just entertainment value out of it. I mean, I really learn a lot, I am strengthening my relationship with Christ, and I feel that I am enriched in a way that is not possible with mainstream television. I admit that I truly believe Sky Angel is helping me to be a better mom… how? Keep reading…

I am a better mom with Sky Angel because:

1. Sky Angel’s 48 hour playback feature allows me to watch my favorite programs while not taking away time spent with my son.

2. The variety of programs and channels offer so much that teach, encourage and inspire me to be more.

3. I can watch my favorite pastors and hear their sermons at almost any time or day of the week.

4. The programming for children is so wholesome and educational. It reinforces many of the values and lessons I teach my son.

5. Having Sky Angel in my home is a good way to provide fellowship and support to other moms.

6. The Today’s Weather Page helps me to plan my day so I dress myself and my little one appropriately.

7. It’s easy to install and once I did it, I felt empowered by a job well done.

8. The joy of watching the reruns of Who’s the Boss and Golden Girls, as well as other great shows from the 80s and 90s, brings back fond memories of “clean” and meaningful television.

9. I no longer need to spend money on traditional cable service since all the stations we need are provided by Sky Angel, thus more money for toys and ice cream!

10. The news and information programs keep me up to date about what’s happening in the world, while at the same time providing a unique Christian perspective on today’s issues and stories.

I could go on and on about how Sky Angel makes me a better person in general, but I think the most important thing to remember is that having the ability to choose this source and form of entertainment for my home is what really matters. Keeping my home environment as Christ-centered as possible is crucial when it comes to my responsibilities in motherhood. We all know that parenting is not easy, but when God provides certain tools to help support us in the journey, and when using those tools we must trust in the wisdom of discernment. I wholeheartedly believe that Sky Angel is more than just a service or a Christian television and radio program provider. I honestly think that it is just one way that God chooses to communicate with us, both directly and indirectly, through the power and voices of others.

Movie Review: Faith Like Potatoes - TBN

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I rented this movie months ago and really enjoyed it. One of the aspects I enjoy about SkyAngel is the movies that show up throughout the channels that can save you a buck or four when looking for family movie nights(Or days). “Faith like Potatoes” is a true story based on the struggles of one african farming family. This movie chronicles their life through their pre Christian days, through their conversion, and through many triumphs and terrible tragedy as well. The DVD has extra features showing what this godly family is involved in today spreading the gospel. I highly reccomend this movie as a great family movie in  the drama category. It is always awesome to see a movie that is both uplifting and true. Enjoy the film!

Plugged In Reviews - Focus on the Family

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Sadly Hollywood turns out more garbage than gems these days and it is hard to find something family friendly to go see or rent. Pluuged in Reviews in the Focus on the Family section helps families make decisions with some Christian insight first. There are a good number of reviews on there now. Some highlights are Toy Story 3, Karate Kid, and the newest is Despicable Me. If you want more reviews I’ve read many reviews at Plugged in Online. Their website has detailed reviews on movies, dvd’s, and even video games. Swing by and check them out on SkyAngel and/or online. God bless!

Sprout!

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Skyangel has just added PBS Sprout to their line up! My kids really enjoy many PBS shows, but we do not recieve PBS very well through our antenna. We were all excited this morning to find a new channel for kids. Skyangel continues to provide great family programming. It was a bummer to lose discovery kids, but I think Sprout is actually a better edition to the line up. The shows are much more family friendly! Sprout is a 24 hr preaschool channel for kids 2-5 featuring such favorites as Sesame Street, Thomas and Friends, Bob the Builder, The Berenstain Bears, and many more. Be sure and check it out at channel 309!

Sky Angel welcomes PBS KIDS Sprout and Versus to channel lineup

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Please join me in welcoming some new additions to the Sky Angel family.  As a mom to a preschooler, I am super excited about PBS KIDS Sprout joining the lineup.  If you have preschool children between the ages of two and five, you will absolutely love this channel as it is the first 24-hour network specifically designed to get the little ones moving in the morning and later helps them to unwind after a long, busy day.  Tune into channel 309 anytime day or night to enjoy all the fun.

Next, the action-packed sports network Versus makes its debut on Sky Angel by providing the latest, up close and personal experience in the world of sports today.  It’s home to the NHL, IZOD IndyCar series, Tour de France and more!  The network also features seasonal programming related to hunting, fishing, and bull riding.  Be sure to catch all the action on channel 328.

Congratulations to Sky Angel for continuing to provide a wide array of faith and family based in-home entertainment for individuals of all ages.

Southern Gospel Music

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Lately I’ve been watching, from time to time, channel 119, Family Friendly Entertainment.  They carry really great music videos - Southern Gospel!

Not only do I enjoy the Southern Gospel sound, but also, you really hear the scriptures taught clearly in the words of the music.

What is particularly interesting is that, the same groups that I watched 20 or 30 years ago are still singing, some with the same members, some with people who used to be with other groups and are now with them.

It’s like a walk down memory lane for me, because in my early days as a Christian, that’s all I listened to.  And now, thanks to Sky Angel, I can once again listen to, and watch, Southern Gospel music!

Please pray for Pastor Rick Warren and his family

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Earlier this week, the famous pastor and author Rick Warren was hospitalized for severe burns to his eyes.  Reports say that while gardening, Warren accidentally wiped the poisonous sap of a firestick plant directly into his eyes.  He was taken to a hospital in excruciating pain on Monday, and today, still remains unable to fully open both eyes.  He does have limited vision, but is still suffering from pain.  Warren is well-known in the Sky Angel realm for his contributions to the LifeTogether video series curriculum and on-demand video Bible studies that are based on Warren’s Purpose Drive Life book.  Doctors expect Warren to make a full recovery.  On his Twitter page, Warren tweeted: “Thank you for prayers for my eyes. Another doctor visit this PM. May God use this pain for his glory. Rom. 8:28.”  My thoughts and prayers are with Pastor Rick Warren and his family.

The Return of Roy Rogers!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

While I was listening to KLOVE Radio a few days ago, the announcer mentioned that RFDTV purchased Roy Roger’s stuffed horse Trigger for $266,500 and his stuffed dog Bullet for $35,000! Talk about having a piece of history! Roy Rogers is undoubtedly one of the greatest old western cymbals we have. RDF TV will also be airing a special Live show this Thursday(7/22/10) with members of the Rogers family as they share memories and disguss bringing Roy Roger’s movies to RFDTV. I am not very familiar with this RFDTV station, but I will definitely tune in to watch the classic Roy Rogers westerns!

Movie Review: Red Baron - VOD

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Sky Angel Christian Video On Demand

I enjoyed the Red Baron more than I was expecting. This movie was interesting because it educated me about a character I knew very little about. It seems hard for us to visualize a German war movie without thinking of Nazis. In this movie though we meet a Red Baron who is far from a Nazi in a Germany roughly 20 years from the horrors of Hitler.  We even learn of the daring contributions Jewish pilots made to Germany’s WWI efforts. One Jewish pilot is fictionalized as a friend of the Baron’s for dramatic effect. However, it could have been a true element. I have to admit I really enjoyed the movie for the air battles. There is a romantic storyline and an angle investigating the horrors of war. However, the movie shines when it takes to the skies in the dogfights. The Baron, while deadly is a sportsman and not a butcher. He grows to hate war and what propaganda has done to him. Yet, he learns and never forgets his duty to his fellow soldiers and his country. The battles are accompanied by a powerful musical score. The friendships among the pilots and their respect for their enemies is shown clearly. Joseph Fiennes (Luther) plays a great supporting role as an enemy pilot from the French. I think Guys will like the action and ladies may enjoy the love story. Everyone can appreciate the historical and emotional story of WWI and its effects on everyone involved. Not good for young kids maybe. For most anyone though I think it’s a pretty good movie. God bless!

Glad to be Back Home with Sky Angel

Monday, July 19th, 2010

We have been out of town for 3 weeks on business and vacation.  Our first day back today was welcomed with Christian Music Videos as we went about our daily chores.  We missed the great movies, music videos, and all the great programming that Sky Angel has to offer that we have come to take for granted.

We are glad to be home safely and glad to be back to Sky Angel.
