World Premier of “The Way Home” This Friday!

Monday, September 27th, 2010

As a father of four children, I honestly do not know how I would react to losing them, and it is a subject that would be really hard for me to talk about. This weekend(9/25/10) I saw a commercial on GMC for new movie that is not even out on DVD! The Movie “The way Home” is a true story about a man’s faith that is tested when his child is missing. On GMC’s web site, I  found out that the movie was filmed in the exact location where the actual events occurred! “The Way Home” airs this Friday(10/1/10) at 8 and 10 PM ET, or watch it with the 48 hr play back like I will be doing!

New Football League! - on Vs. Network

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

I have been by the new Vs.(Versus)Network a few times recently to check out different sport programs. I just found a new professional football league tonight. This is not affiliated with the NFL but is playing in the fall on different days like Friday and Saturday in markets where no NFL team is located. So they call it complimentary not competitive(Like it could be?!). But I did recognize some NFL names like the QB Dante Culpeper. Or QB Jeff Garcia or coach Denny Green. There’s also new up and coming players. This league is in it’s second season and it is growing. It may actually survive. They have put together a good website and already even have fantasy football(Which I don’t understand but seems very popular among some guys.) There is also clothing and other merchandise already.  Best of all they are vowing to keep ticket prices down and you can get tickets anywhere from $15 to tops of$35! That’s way cheaper than NFL. So if you’ve been looking for more football or may want to try something new or different see the UFL on Vs. You can check the UFL website at www.ufl-football.com  God bless!

Letters to Juliet VOD!

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Skyangel just added “Letters to Juliet” this past weekend to their VOD line up. “Letters to Juliet” is a brand new release, so I was excited to check it out. This film is about a lady(Sophie) who travels to Italy with her fiancé. Sophie’s fiancé is very self absorbed and ends up leaving her in Italy to go and do some business things. While he is off doing his own thing she ends up connecting with an elderly women through an anonymous letter, and goes on a touching journey to help Claire find her first love. Sophie and Claire are accompanied by Claire’s reluctant grandson Charlie who initially can’t stand Sophie. It then turns into a typical romance in which two people who can’t stand each other end up falling in love. “Letters to Juliet” is beautifully filmed, and well acted. Claire’s character is so sweet and shows a beautiful example of what true love can be. Unfortunately the film is tainted by the fact that Sophie is living with her fiancé while falling in love with Charlie. She then ends up(after returning home) breaking up with him to go find Charlie. “Letters to Juliet” is PG and very clean. It is not a Christian film by any means and I would not recommend it for children as it shows the acceptance of couples cohabitating. You can find it under Just Added in the VOD section.

Movie Review: Dog Gone

Friday, September 24th, 2010

My grandson and I watched Dog Gone this afternoon.  It was fast-paced with a message that crime doesn’t pay.  It was a Home Alone type movie, but in a more rugged setting.  There were some fake animals that lent a bit of humor.  They made the most of bathroom humor that young boys enjoy.  I could do without that type of joke.  Shawn loved it!  The movie would not be appropriate for very young children, but can be entertaining for 10 to 12 year olds.  The plot included a boy, a dog, a recluse, bullies, and three bumbling criminals.  There were lots of laughs as well as some warmth.  The hero and his family were positive role models for young viewers like Shawn.

I tried to insert the picture and promo from the Sky Angel email, but I guess I don’t know how to do that.

The Hiding Place

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

One of the best movies I have ever seen is The Hiding Place.  It is the story of Corrie Ten Boom and her family, and how they hid Jews during World War II.

The Nazis wanted to kill all of the Jews, but Corrie and her family, being Christians, wanted to protect God’s Chosen People, the Jews.  So they hid them in their house, and also snuck them away to other safe houses.  They were finally caught by the Nazis.

Corrie went on to have a worldwide ministry after the war.  I actually heard her speak in the 1970s.  She spoke at Melodyland Christian Center, in the Los Angeles area.

The house that the Ten Boom family lived in, and hid Jews in, is now a museum.  You can see the secret room where they hid Jews.  You can even purchase a watch, because the Ten Boom Watch Shop is still open!

You can read all about it at http://www.corrietenboom.com/information.htm

Daystar Channel

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

I am enjoying the Daystar channel.  Celebration has interesting themes, guests and live music.  I have enjoyed watching Joni.

Sid Roth has Paul Wilbur on this week, September 20-26.  I found the following information on Sid Roth’s website.  He writes that Jewish Psalmist Paul Wilbur was sharing before a large crowd of Muslims how he came to believe in Jesus, and hundreds came to receive Messiah.  He writes that one Muslim rushed forward in excitement, broke through security and put Paul in a headlock.  I can’t wait to record and play It’s Supernatural to find out what happened next. My ISP went off while I was taping Sunday.

For the last 2 weeks or so, I have been caring for my new great-grandson so my granddaughter can get some sleep.  He is finally sleeping more in the night.  Yesterday, I watched my 2-year-old and 1-month-old grandchildren so their parents could celebrate their anniversary.  That has made it difficult for me to watch much TV.  When the children go home, I crash.  I usually watch Glenn Beck and Fox news to see what is going on, as well as the Christian programming I have on Tivo.

This weekend we are having an evangelist/prophet at our church.  Our music team will be busy, so I will have to get back to you next week.  I don’t expect to watch much TV over the weekend.  After this, I hope to get back to watching more Sky Angel offerings.  What a blessing to have such a great internet protocol provider.  May Sky Angel prosper immensely!

Movie Alert! This Monday on GMC!

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Relive the classic trilogy of “Back to the Future” 1-3 with Michael J. Fox and the gang all on GMC starting Monday the 20th! GMC is now playing lots of movies from the 80’s and 90’s. Most are PG rated movies and are edited. These are not Christian films for the most part so there is need for caution. Most are at least family friendly with some explanation when things get cultish. As an example my wife and I watched “Always” with Richard Dreyfuss last night. This is a fun movie and a pretty good love story and adventuresome. John Goodman is great with his comedic/dramatic supporting role. However, the theology for this Spielberg film is far from Biblical. Think “Ghost Whisperer” without a medium and much better acting! It kind of reminds me of another film I enjoyed but totally disagreed with the theology in. “Defending your Life” with Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep. Basically, “good” people go to heaven or move on up the reincarnation chain. “bad” people don’t. Obviously the Bible makes it clear we are all sinners worthy of Hell and it is only by God’s amazing grace that any of us find repentance and faith and thus salvation. Christianity has nothing to do with good people making it to heaven but rather a good God saving bad people from Hell out of unexplainable grace and love. Anyway enjoy the movies but be cautious and prayerful. Take care!

Sky Angel Web TV is now available

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Now there really is no reason not to enjoy Sky Angel anytime or anywhere.  Sky Angel Web TV service has recently launched and is making more than 35 of the best faith-based radio and TV channels available worldwide.  For only $14.99 a month, Sky Angel TV subscribers can view a variety of television and radio channels directly on their PC.  Having this option means more families can enjoy high quality entertainment from almost anywhere that provides internet access capabilities, including hospital and hotel rooms, schools, libraries, and more.  As an added bonus feature, users also can have real-time online chats with other viewers who are watching the same live channels.  Sky Angel Web TV is just another example of how today’s internet technology and reach is being used to help fulfill Robert Johnson Sr.’s vision of creating a virtual platform “where the Gospel is available to all nations.”

Sonlife Broadcasting Network

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

I was absolutely thrilled to see Sonlife Broadcasting Network come to Sky Angel. The best programs in my opinion are News You Can Use (which comes on right before Frances and Friends) and Frances and Friends. News You Can Use delivers headline making stories and lines them up with the Truth of the Word. There have been many stories I learned about on this show that none of the other news medias wanted to touch with a 10 foot pole. It’s accurate, and hard hitting.

Frances and Friends is a talk show with a biblically knowledgeable panel. There is a time for call-ins and emails and the dialogue can get pretty intense. It is totally enjoyable, and very educating. The topics of discussion are things that the church desperately needs to be aware of.

I try to catch these programs every day, and I hope that readers will give them a try. Even if you are not theologically in agreement with JSM, you will still love these programs and they pertain to current events and the Church of Jesus Christ as a whole.

National Quartet Convention (NQC)

Monday, September 13th, 2010

The annual National Quartet Convention starts tonight (9/13) in Louisville. Since I can’t go, I opted to purchase a webcast ticket for less than $60. It will allow me to watch all evening live concerts (six hours per night, Monday through Saturday), as well as special afternoon events from Wednesday through Saturday. Afternoon events include a Sarah Palin speech, a Gaither sing-a-long, a showcase for newer/younger sounthern gospel artists, as well as others. The great bonus this year is that if I don’t catch all the events “live” (or even if I do), my webcast ticket includes on-demand access to view any or all of them until the end of October.

I don’t think the convention is televised live anywhere on Sky Angel — but INSP, the Gospel Music Channel, and I think FFE, broadcast programs that include NQC performances,. I look forward to seeing those performances “live” this week, then seeing many of them again on Sky Angel channels throughout the upcoming year.

By the way, I actually prefer “attending” the NQC this way — I could never handle all that walking or the demanding schedule (evening concerts last until almost midnight CDT every night).
