Family Issues & You:
PTC Calls for Immediate Cancellation of NBC’s “Playboy Club”
The Parents Television Council® is calling for the immediate cancellation of “The Playboy Club” on NBC following the second episode in the new season, which drew even more abysmal ratings than the premiere. PTC is also asking members to contact Capital One, Samsung, and keep the pressure on Chrysler until they cease sponsorship of a broadcast television program that is mainstreaming the pornography industry.
“What has been clear to everyone outside of NBC must now be clear even to those inside NBC: ‘The Playboy Club’ is a commercial disaster and must be removed from the airwaves. We call for the network to cancel this degrading and sexualizing program immediately,” said PTC President Tim Winter.

Ok, now I am sure that a lot of you have watched the Hollywood movie Soul Surfer, but in no way do you know the whole story of Bethany Hamilton at all until you watch this. This is a very well made documentary and it’s not very long at all, a half hour I believe. I found it under the Teens section of the Kids & Teens category in Video on Demand.
Now of course the actual story is the same. You can’t make this stuff up! Bethany was a surfer since she was a child; her parents were surfers and really started her surfing before she could walk. As she got older her love for surfing grew as well as her love for God. At the age of 13 she really dedicated her life to God and her walk with Him.
Now on Halloween of 2003 is when the shark attack happened as many of you know, but what was not portrayed in the major movie that was shown beautifully here is her faith.
I was so impressed with how she overcame not only the horrific attack on that day, but how she persevered with her faith in God alone. Her theology was right on point with her praise during her hardships and tribulation knowing that God had a plan for her in all of this and her faith never waivered, not once.
So in closing, this was a great watch, weather you watched Soul Surfer or not. It was actual video footage of Bethany and her family and friends and herself telling the story of not only this, but of the glory and grace of our Lord. Watch this, I encourage you, if your faith is ever wavering for our own selfish reasons; see what she went through, and how she persevered.

Do you like westerns? Do you like comedy? Do you like romance? Do you like family friendly? If that is a yes to any or all of those you are going to love “Gunless”! I don’t know how much was edited but it seems like there was only a couple bleeped words in the film. There was no sex, and the violence was there but minimal. I mean it is a western right? Our story finds the Montana Kid riding into town half dead on his horse. He collapses off it and goes to seek ammo. When he returns after an interesting store visit he finds his horse at the local blacksmith where the blacksmith is working on him. The Montana Kid sees this as worth killing the blacksmith over but the blacksmith just blows him off. Its a hilarious scene! The Montana Kid demands a gunfight but there’s a small problem. Nobody in town has a gun! Except a pretty and gutsy lady who happens to need help building her windmill. She’ll trade the broken handgun she has for the Montana Kid’s labor. He’ll build the windmill, fix the gun, and get his gunfight. Thus the story begins. I can’t relay just how funny this movie is. The Montana Kid is tough and rugged, the Candian townsfolk here are friendly and the local Mounty is as Dudley Do Right as it gets. The brothers that share the tavern/store and argue over customers are great as well as the rest of the diverse townfolk. There are gut busting laughs and awesome gun action as well as touching moments. I have to rate this as one of my favorite westerns ever and definitely one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while! Give it a look you won’t be dissapointed!

Family Issues & You:Plugged In: Are There Cows in Your Living Room (what would Moses say about a culture that practically worships entertainment)
Steven Isaac from Plugged In has written an insightful article on the influence pop culture has on our teens:
“I’d like to know how all those cows got inside the house. Not that these are just any old cows. They’re sacred cows. Were you aware that Lady Gaga is a cow to many teens? How about Katy Perry? Jersey Shore? Pirates of the Caribbean? It would only take a handful of the many letters Plugged In receives each year to convince you.
We get two major complaints sent to us here at Plugged In. One is that we shouldn’t review pop culture at all because secular entertainment is evil and not even worth discussing. The other is that we shouldn’t review pop culture at all because it is harmless and doesn’t affect anyone’s real life in the least. Interestingly, it is often those who claim “entertainment immunity” whose letters are filled with vulgarity and venom.”

On The NRB Channel, I found a fascinating perspective on radical environmentalism. It’s disturbing how this extreme green frenzy movement elevates nature above the needs of the people including the poorest and most helpless. This program was called “Resisting the Green Dragon” and speaker Dr. E. Calvin Beisner addressed the radical environmentalist’s world view as opposed to our Christian world view. The Bible teaches that nature was made for man to touch, and not that nature is best if it is untouched by human hands! We are suppose to subdue and rule over the Earth, but we can be good stewards as well; God has given us a sound mind we must apply and use it! You can also check out their website at www.resistingthegreendragon.com

What a fantastic movie this is!
I have studied extensively the book of Ruth in the Bible, and this movie captures the essence of Ruth:
- Ruth is a Moabite woman who is honorable toward Naomi and her God.
- Ruth is devastated by the loss of her husband.
- Ruth abandons everything she knows to go with Naomi and serve the God of Israel.
Questions I have had about the book of Ruth were cleared up by this movie, such as how it was for Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah when their husbands died; and how was everyday life in Moab.
Seeing the actual events acted out really helped me to understand the book of Ruth.
Also, the music really added to the movie. For example, when Naomi was grieving over the loss of her son, the music really created a feeling of hopelessness and despair.
You can find The Book of Ruth on Video on Demand / Movies / Pure Flix.
I highly recommend The Book of Ruth!

Family Issues & You:
Morality in Media: The Playboy Club TV Show Will Fail
Tonight, a new show premieres on network TV that has many very concerned about the direction TV programming is headed. Morality in Media has launched a special website for the effort against the show, www.CloseTheClubOnNBC.com.
According to the website, this “is an effort to make it unprofitable for NBC to exploit women and promote a pornified culture this fall with their new show “The Playboy Club.” We launched the initial effort to remove the show from the NBC lineup. We will work with other groups to contact NBC affiliate stations demanding that they cut the show.”

If you’ve read my posts in the past you know I’m a fan of Pure Flix movies. I recommend you swing by the Pure Flix section on VOD and check out some films there (except “The Scarf” it is really tacky and A Pure Flix rep I spoke with is actually trying to get it removed from Sky Angel as they don’t even like it associated with them!). If you like end times stuff check out “In the Blink of an Eye”. It is there and well done as well as other great films. I hope Sky Angel adds other greats like “What If” and “Christmas with a Capital C”. However after reading one of Karole’s (our moderator) post a while back I was directed to a site asking people to see about a promoting a new movie from Pure Flix. The film is called “Jerusalem Countdown”. This based on John Hagee’s novel of the same name. It stars David AR White, Bionic Man Lee Majors, Stacey Keach and Randy Travis as well as Christian singing start Jaci Velasquez. This is Pure Flix’s biggest action, effects movie yet! Best of all you can help bring it to your town or church! Well I searched it out and after talking with folks at Pure Flix I got info on how to host the film in my town or church. I helped bring a Christiano Brother’s film called “Time Changer” (Also on VOD) to my town a few years back and it did well enough that the theater extended it’s run an extra week because of viewer attendance. Lord willing I’ll be able to help get this one here too. If you’d like to help bring this film to your theater or church check the info below and follow the necessary links. God bless!

I know, I know, this could be classified as a “chick-flick”, but this movie is actually funny and quite well done. It starts out in the beginning with the main character, Abby, as a child with her grandmother. She starts a whole imaginary life while there and makes up a friend named Si, who actually never leaves her. It goes into her older years and she is a painter, a really good painter at that, and she mostly does portraits of this Si character. She has a flakey roommate named Jessica and they both work together at Borders.
Abby is going to college and that is where she meets this cocky guy named Quinn, they are in the same art appreciation class together. Needless to say, Quinn bugs Abby with his arrogance and disregard for art. But it turns out that Quinn is Jessica’s cousin, so they have to spend more time together then she wanted.
Well things happen and she ends up tutoring Quinn for the art class, and as you could have probably guessed, they both fall for each other, but there is one thing making everything difficult, her relationship to the imaginary Si. I know it sounds quite weird and almost silly, but it makes for a really interesting and funny story.
So this movie was very entertaining, there was a lot of comedy in this movie, and it was very clean. My favorite character is Quinn’s roommate Cal, his persona is somewhat of a party kind of dude (even though there is no partying), and he adds a very funny flair to the movie. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone, it would be a great date movie or just sitting alone by yourself ( which is what i did ), it really does a good job of telling a goofy story and having a great comical side to it without becoming too cheeseball.
