To Save a Life

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

This is hands down one of my favorite movies I have ever seen. I rented it about a year ago then went on a vicious man hunt to find it for sale. After going to 5 or 6 video stores I found it and bought it without hesitation. Since then i have watched this movie no less then 10 times and I have shown it to friends and let countless people borrow it. Keep in mind this is before I knew the wonderful world of SkyAngel!

Ok, so if you dont want to cry, do not watch this movie. Spoiler alert! It will make you weep like a baby. Any way this was on a movie marathon on GMC and it was hosted buy the goofy rapper KJ-52. It marked the end of a pretty impressive movie marathon as my brother Mason wrote about yesterday.

So just the whole movie is great. Its essentially about this kid named Jake and his old friend Roger. They start out as the best of friends as kids but their paths soon differ, with Jake going the more popular route and Roger not so much. I will not give away too much on this movie because I want everyone to go and watch this, wether it is on SkyAngel, or you come to my house :).

Now a tragedy happens with Roger, he takes his life, believe it i did not just give away the movie at all! Thats where the story takes off. Really digs in deep with this Jake kid and you watch him wrestle with his sinful life, starting in a walk with Christ, and many many twists and turns are thrown at him so much.

Now just to warn you there is a smidge of language in this movie. I normally will turn a movie off when that happens, but ( if you can believe this or not ) it really lends itself to the story of redemtive point of the movie.

So yes, watch this, 48 hour playback right now on GMC, grab some kleenex, your bible, and enjoy. I have every time Ive watched it!

God bless

Sky Angel WebTV - Brightening My Saturday!

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

I have posted about Sky Angel WebTV before. As a matter of fact, I have chosen to subscribe to both Sky Angel IPTV and Sky Angel WebTV. I’m having such a good time sampling programming this afternoon that I wanted to tell everyone why Sky Angel WebTV adds so much enjoyment to my days.

I have subscribed to Sky Angel IPTV since it started, plus years of Sky Angel service before the conversion to the IPTV platform. (There’s a whole lot more programming now!) I’ve discovered that the features of Sky Angel WebTV offer some new ways to enjoy the programming. I can very easily find and sample (or watch) programs — the 48 hours of available programming is displayed in a program guide on the right side of the screen. Selected programs load up quickly and I can easily slide ahead to a different point in a program. (That is especially helpful if I am watching a magazine-style program like 700 Club or 100 Huntley Street and know I want to watch only one particular segment.) Not every channel in the IPTV lineup is included in the WebTV programming. However, the WebTV offers the advantage that the 48-hour playback feature is available on every TV channel (including TV channels that are part of the IPTV family programming, where 48-hour playback is not a feature).

You can find a wide variety of programming on Sky Angel WebTV, including a children’s channel, contemporary and southern gospel music video channels, new movies, old movies, many, many classic TV shows (Ozzie and Harriet, I Spy, Bob Newhart, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, The Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, etc.). It’s easy to find the current Gaither Hour broadcast to watch when it’s convenient for you, and whatever your favorite Christian ministry, you can probably watch that on demand as well. Sky Angel WebTV also offers a variety of radio channels that are conveniently available in one spot so you can easily move around among them.

You can also access Sky Angel WebTV in a variety of ways. Watch it directly on your desktop computer, laptop, or netbook. I ran an HDMI cable from my netbook to my 46″ TV, which allows me to watch full-screen programming on the TV, using the great sound of the TV’s speakers. I can also watch the programming on my Kindle Fire tablet, which means I can take it with me to any location where I can access a wi-fi connection.

Doesn’t that sound like you’d be getting a LOT for $14.99 a month? There is no contract, so you pay only for months when you subscribe. Why not check it out for a month? Like I said, I’m havin’ a blast exploring all the programming today, hope y’all will check it out! (And no, I don’t work for Sky Angel!)

Movie Review: Awake Oh Sleeper! - Short Films - Whitestone

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

I really enjoy Whitestone pictures. I’ve watched almost all of their offerrings and some more than once. This is a great short film about breaking bonds of slavery and a distinctive Christ focus. I love the beat to the song and the performance as well. In one word the presentation is, powerful. Check out all that Whitestone has to offer. If you have a good stereo system and like intense music, play this loud! God bless!

Saturday movies on Smile of a Child!

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

The Smile of a Child network is a great channel that has dozens of Christian and family friendly shows for kids. My kids are always finding shows they enjoy! I have noticed recently that Smile of a Child tends to have several family and children’s movies on Saturdays throughout the day. With the 48hr playback feature you can enjoy them for a few days. Last Saturday they had three movies: A Dog of Flanders, Torchlighters: Gladys Alyward, and Heidi. We watched the first two and enjoyed them both. A Dog of Flanders is an older movie in color that is based on a classic children’s book. This story is about a young Dutch boy who is very poor and living with his Grandfather. It is quite a dramatic tale of friendship, loyalty, loss, finding his talents as an artist, and of course there is his dog. Dog of Flanders is a bit dramatic and is probably best for six and up. The second one we watched Torchlighters: Gladys Alyward is about a young missionary women in China during World War 2. This cartoon tells the story of her risking her life by walking for 31 days through the mountains with over 100 children in order to save them from the Japanese invasion. It also shows how she was used by God to touch many lives. It is an amazing story and definitely worth checking out with your children. Gladys Alyward is one of a series of cartoons put out by Torchlighters that highlight the lives of Christian missionaries. If you go to the SkyAngel VOD section under Kids you will find four other cartoons by Torchlighters about: Amy Carmichael, Jim Elliot, John Bunyan, and William Tyndale. All of these are very well made and amazing stories. Some of them are more dramatic than others and may not be suitable for very young children.

Faith on Fox!

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Watching Fox News station last week, news commentator Hannity was talking about the Bronco’s quarter-back Tim Tebow. Hannity recited one of Tebow’s favorite Bible verses… John 3:16, talked about his own Christian faith, and discussed how the media seems to slam Christians. I thought that this was very impressive since this is a secular news station we‘re talking about here! I grew up watching NBC news(only station we had out in the country), and I remember being extremely annoyed by their media’s anti-Christian slant. Hannity seems to feel at ease in expressing his own Christian beliefs, and though I don’t agree with everything he has to say, this world needs to hear that Jesus is the Answer and not politics! Let’s get back to John 3:16!

Thou Shalt Laugh

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

I just saw some very funny programs — Thou Shalt Laugh 2, 3, 4, and 5.  You can find these programs at the following location:

Video On Demand / Movies / Comedy

I was disappointed not to be able to find Thou Shalt Laugh 1, because these shows keep you laughing from beginning to end.  Each show features several comedians who (1) are very talented and (2) keep it clean.  In fact, all of the comedians seemed to be Christians, as they all included at least a little bit of “Christian humor” in their acts.

Taylor Mason is one of my favorite comedians, and he and his puppets were in all of the Thou Shalt Laugh programs.

One feature I liked about these shows was that in most cases, the host was a comedian himself; and in between acts, the host would keep you laughing with his / her own monologue.

If you’re bored, or if life is not too good for you these days, watch the Thou Shalt Laugh series.  You will definitely be cheered up!

Movie Review: Milltown Pride - VOD - Just Added

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

Do you like baseball movies? Do you like Christian films that are not just clean or family friendly but actually tackle tough subjects in a biblical manner? Well you’ll probably like “Milltown Pride”. Think of it as a low budget Christian version of “The Natural” with Robert Redford. OK so maybe that’s a stretch. It is a turn of the century baseball movie with a kid who has a natural talent for baseball. Rather a God given gift.

Will is the “Town Boy” from the right side of the rail road tracks who joins a mill baseball team from the other side of the tracks in hopes of catching the eye of a big league scout. Will is raised in a Christian home and always considered himself a Christian. Yet when the famous Billy Sunday comes to town he begins to recognize that maybe he’s not sure about his Christianity.

This movie contains a love story as well as other side issues. Some big ones are false conversion/false Christians, alcohol and prohibition, lying, and friendship. Each topic is handled pretty well. That is to say they were pretty biblically well handled. I especially like how they showed that while alcoholism is wrong, Proibition was not a “biblical” answer to the problem.

I really enjoyed the sermon delivered by the Billy Sunday character. He called people to turn from sin and follow Christ. I believe Billy probably would have just told people to repent back then, yet with even much of the American church sadly ignorant of the term it was good that he spelled it out for the film. Billy was passionate but not throwing Hellfire and brimstone! All in all it was a good Gospel presentation. Overall the film did a good job presenting solid biblical relationships and theology without getting preachy.

You might see this as a film like something Sherwood Pictures would have made(Fireproof, Facing the Giants, etc.)yet without the polish. Overall a good and safe family film. God bless!

Just a quick tip for movie lovers!

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Hey all! If you’re like me you like good Christian and family friendly films. If you’re even more like me you like to watch them cheap…or FREE! Don’t get me wrong. The convenience and variety of SkyAngels VOD section is awesome! The new Christmas section is better than last year by far! That said if you’re willing to do a little hunting you can find a lot of movies on regular channels. I sometimes give more specific detail but for a short post this really is just hints. Check out GMC,TBN, JCTV, INSP, and Cornerstone regularly. These have various movies on them all through the day. When browsing through the awesome 48hr playback feature of SkyAngel make sure to look for any movie an hour and a half or longer. It may just say “Movie”, but it is often a hiding gem. In recent weeks greats like Fireproof, Facing the Giants, Flywheel, Jesus of Nazareth, What If?, and many more have played. So do some browsing and enjoy the gems you uncover. Then, spread the word! God bless!
