Movie Review: Thomas Kincade’s Christmas Lodge - VOD/Christmas(Duh?!)

Monday, December 19th, 2011

I liked this movie. Minus a little off theology I really liked this movie! You have no doubt seeing that it is a Christian film. It has the quality of a Hallmark movie with good acting and a good story. However, while Hallmark will sometimes make a movie with a hat tip to God this movie is too full of prayer and talk of God and His activity in peoples lives to make it on their channel I’d guess. Mary is the main character who while hiking in the woods with her city slicker boyfriend finds an injured little girl who happens to be the daughter of a guy named Jack who owns the now defunct, “Christmas Lodge”. If you watch the trailer below you’ll see a spoiler so if you don’t like that, don’t watch the trailer. I couldn’t find one that didn’t have the spoiler in it either so sorry for that. So I won’t give anything away but let me just say this. If you like a movie that is pretty much fairy tale perfect, and everybody is Christian, and they “Live happily ever after”, you’ll love this movie! If you’re like me sometimes you really want a movie to be a break from reality, in a good way. This movie is that. I Look forward to more Thomas Kincade movies on SkyAngel. He’s both a painter and movie maker of light it seems. Enjoy!

Movie Review: Glory to God Alone - J.S. Bach - VOD

Monday, September 5th, 2011

When you think of classical music and great composers, a handful of names always come to mind - even folks to like me who don’t know much about it. One of the names you will undoubtedly hear is that of Bach.  Johann Sebastian Bach was an organist and composer who loved to glorify God through his music. He was a great admirer of the Reformer Martin Luther who himself loved music and said that music was second only to theology. In just under 45 minutes you will get a historical and interesting look at one of the world’s best loved musicians. This movie would be great for homeschool students, music lovers, history buffs or people who just love to hear about incredible famous people who loved God and sought to glorify Him with their lives. Whoever you are, you will be blessed by this biographical sketch of this great musician and man of God. Find it in Sky Angel’s VOD section under Sky Angel Documentaries! God bless!

Movie Review: In the Blink of an Eye - TBN 08/21/11 (48hr)

Do you like end time thriller movies? Now to maybe a better question. Do you like well produced end times thriller movies? Well then, I reccommend to you Pure Flix Entertainment’s, “In the Blink of an Eye”. In short, picture “Groundhog’s Day” meets “Left Behind” and you get an idea of this film. The film stars David A.R. White and his wife as a husband and wife in the film. This helps to make a believable performance for the two. David plays a cop who with the help of his Christian partner saves a Brittney Spears knock off from death by a kidnapper. In repayment her manager/boyfriend invites both cops and their wives on a yacht vacation in the Bahamas or someplace like it. Of the foursome only David is not a Christian. His mariage is suffering because he let’s his cop work run his life. After a fun day with his wife on a beach she dissapears. After frantic searching and drama he wakes up the next day to his wife in the boat again with him. They repeat the same day again! Eventually David gets the hint that God is up to someting and he tries to “Do the Christianity thing.” and it doesn’t work. See the movie to see how God works on him. As I’ve said in the past Pureflix makes good movies. High production value and good stories. So if you wanna catch this one for FREE, swing by TBN and watch it in the next 30 hours or so! If you miss it you can catch it and many others on SkyAngels’ exclusive PureFLix VOD section! God bless and enjoy!

Movie Review: The Road to Emmaus - VOD

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

I think one of the most incredible teachings any Christian would like to hear that is not in the Bible is the one Jesus gave to His disciples on the Road to Emmaus. Well I know I’d love to hear it! Now we don’t get that teaching but we get an idea of what it could have been. From the same people who brought us Matthew and ACTS now we have The Road to Emmaus. Bruce Marchiano returns as Jesus as He explains to his disciples the message of Christ throughout the Bible. It is a story of redemption and grace. I would have loved to have seen this handled with Passion level film production and length but we don’t always get what we want. However, this is a good God honoring movie that can bless any believer at any stage in their walk. A good family movie. Just remember this is not a word for word scriptural account like Matthew or Acts. This is using scripture to give a best guess of what Jesus shared with His disciples that day. That being said it is soaked with scripture and is overall pretty good for the low budget. Folks who liked Marchiano as Jesus will like him here as well. Enjoy!

Movie Review: C.H. Spurgeon - VOD

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Do you love C.H. Spurgeon? If you don’t it can only be because you somehow haven’t heard of him. Known as, “The Prince of Preachers”, Spurgeon was the London preacher who burned with a passion for God that still influences Chrisitianity today. Enjoy this docudrama that tells the story of this incredible man of God. The writer of such classics as the devotionals, “Morning by Morning” and “Morning and Evening”, as well as the incredible “Soul Winner”, and countless other classics. Spurgeon pulled no punches. He lived a life full of pain, struggle, and yet incredible blessing. It is probably safe to say that there hasn’t been as influential a Christian figure since Martin Luther 300 years prior. Spurgeon is quite possibly the most influential Christian figure outside of the writers of scripture. This docudrama will give you a small taste in an overview of this man’s life. I reccomend the film but even more highly reccomend Spurgeon’s body of work. Much of it is avaliable FREE on the internet. Go to http://www.spurgeon.org/mainpage.htm to dive into the wealth of Spurgeon resources available there. God bless and enjoy this classic. You can find it in the “History” section of the VOD menu.

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Check the listing times on either TBN or Smile of a Child to find Bugtime Adventures. This is a cool show that has a group of fun bugs learning Bible lessons that parallel the Bible story they are living around at that time. Each episode takes place concurrently with a famous Bible story. So on one hand the kids get a true Bible story and another application with more recognizable modern terms from the bugs. This is a good show and kids and adults will enjoy it. Saturday morning quality but God centered                                                                      values. Enjoy. Blessed by Christmas!

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

I pray that everyone who reads this post has been blessed this Christmas. I want to clarify the term blessing as well. Blessed in it’s most literal sense means “Oh so very happy!”. Now undoubtedly presents given and received, family, friends, holiday music, etc. can all lend to having a blessed Christmas. I know I was blessed as well as my family by the wide variety of Christmas programs on SkyAngel that pointed us to Christ and the true reason for the season. However, you may have had all the things above including great SKyAngel programming, and still missed the blessing. Yet, you could be reading this and on the other hand have missed any and/or all of the things above in the season and had the greatest Christmas ever. All because Christmas and all the hype and all the billions spent in relation to it are only side issues in reality. If you did not take the last couple months to reflect on the incredible gift of Christ, you missed the biggest blessing of Christmas! It is all about Christ humbling Himself and coming to be our savior that makes all the songs woth singing and all the gifts worth giving. So if for some reason you felt a little cheated this year by Christmas, please, look in awe and wonder to the Christ for whom we celebrate the season. Immanuel, God with us! Now looking at the same coin from the other side please consider this. If for some reason you had an incredible Christmas. If all the gifts and all the celebration left you fulfilled and blessed. Left you feeling as if it couldn’t have been a better Christmas. Yet, you recognize that Christ was not the center of your celebrations or the reason for which you gave and received gifts. Then please, humble yourself in the sight of God and beg His forgiveness for neglecting to keep your heart and mind focussed on our Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ. The day is not so important as the heart that celebrates the Christ of Christmas day. Take this day and humbly ask God to give you a heart to praise Him everyday! God bless and have a blessed new year and maybe for some, new life!

A Couple Hours of Powerful, Quality, Evidence for Christ!

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Head over to JCTV at 2200 on 11/21/10 and sit back and enjoy two great films giving excellent evidence and entertainment regarding Jesus Christ! Now don’t worry because it Says “Laugh with the Skit Guys”. That is just mislabeling(Which sadly sometimes happens with some of SKyAngel’s service providers.) This will start you off on Lee Strobel’s documentary based on his best selling book “The Case for Christ”. This is a very well made documentary giving much evidence for Jesus Christ. I don’t agree with Lee on everything or even like all his guests theology. However, in this film everything seems very solid. It is part documentary and autobiography. Following directly after TCFC is “The Perfect Stranger”. This actually starts in the TCFC time slot. I have this movie on DVD as well as the sequel. I have enjoyed every “Stranger” film and there are many. This is a film where a skeptic lawyer is invited to dinner with Jesus. She asks many ?’s skeptics ask and the actor playing Jesus seems quite Christlike in his answering. This film is both entertaining and informative. I think you’ll enjoy it. If you want to get some evidence for yourself without breaking out the books this would be a good block of tv to sit back and enjoy. Prayerfully consider sharing these films w/your non believer friends. Share the scripture with them and encourage them to turn from sin to Christ. While we must always trust in God to do the saving these films may be used by Him in concert with your testimnoy and sharing in the Bible to plant and water seeds of the Gospel that He may bring to fruition in His time. God bless and enjoy!

Movie Review: Lay it Down - NRB 11/13/10 1400

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

http://www.christiancinema.com/trailers/layitdown.html <—CLICK TO VIEW THE TRAILER HERE

One of the Christiano Brothers films, “Lay it Down” is a well made film preseting evangelism in the midst of illegal street racing. Made as a Christian response to movies like the popular series, “The Fast and the Furious” w/Vin Diesel. Like most Christiano films the quality is good. Not big Hollywood budget quality but better than many Christian production teams. The message is clear and sincere and it is all about redemption in Christ. Character depth is good as well as acting. Basically you have two brothes as main CHaracter who love to street race. The older brother races the younger tunes his ride. The older brother “Bam” is the king of racing. He gets in a freak accident and realizes life is short. A pastor friend of his mothers shares the Gospel and he “Lays it Down” to Christ. Of course everybody close to Bam feels betrayed especially his brother. The movie ends well but not as you may expect. There is some good twists and Christ is exalted. While no sinner is seeking God(Rom. 3)and many youth are even vocally opposed or demeaning to Christianity. Some may watch this that are interested in street racing with an air of making fun of it. However, faith comes from and hearing from the word of God(Rom. 10:17). And there is plenty of the word preached here in a non preachy way. In the end seeds will be planted for the Gospel. You can also pick this up on DVD. Check it out!

Movie Alert! This Monday on GMC!

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Relive the classic trilogy of “Back to the Future” 1-3 with Michael J. Fox and the gang all on GMC starting Monday the 20th! GMC is now playing lots of movies from the 80’s and 90’s. Most are PG rated movies and are edited. These are not Christian films for the most part so there is need for caution. Most are at least family friendly with some explanation when things get cultish. As an example my wife and I watched “Always” with Richard Dreyfuss last night. This is a fun movie and a pretty good love story and adventuresome. John Goodman is great with his comedic/dramatic supporting role. However, the theology for this Spielberg film is far from Biblical. Think “Ghost Whisperer” without a medium and much better acting! It kind of reminds me of another film I enjoyed but totally disagreed with the theology in. “Defending your Life” with Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep. Basically, “good” people go to heaven or move on up the reincarnation chain. “bad” people don’t. Obviously the Bible makes it clear we are all sinners worthy of Hell and it is only by God’s amazing grace that any of us find repentance and faith and thus salvation. Christianity has nothing to do with good people making it to heaven but rather a good God saving bad people from Hell out of unexplainable grace and love. Anyway enjoy the movies but be cautious and prayerful. Take care!
