Sky Angel WebTV - Brightening My Saturday!

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

I have posted about Sky Angel WebTV before. As a matter of fact, I have chosen to subscribe to both Sky Angel IPTV and Sky Angel WebTV. I’m having such a good time sampling programming this afternoon that I wanted to tell everyone why Sky Angel WebTV adds so much enjoyment to my days.

I have subscribed to Sky Angel IPTV since it started, plus years of Sky Angel service before the conversion to the IPTV platform. (There’s a whole lot more programming now!) I’ve discovered that the features of Sky Angel WebTV offer some new ways to enjoy the programming. I can very easily find and sample (or watch) programs — the 48 hours of available programming is displayed in a program guide on the right side of the screen. Selected programs load up quickly and I can easily slide ahead to a different point in a program. (That is especially helpful if I am watching a magazine-style program like 700 Club or 100 Huntley Street and know I want to watch only one particular segment.) Not every channel in the IPTV lineup is included in the WebTV programming. However, the WebTV offers the advantage that the 48-hour playback feature is available on every TV channel (including TV channels that are part of the IPTV family programming, where 48-hour playback is not a feature).

You can find a wide variety of programming on Sky Angel WebTV, including a children’s channel, contemporary and southern gospel music video channels, new movies, old movies, many, many classic TV shows (Ozzie and Harriet, I Spy, Bob Newhart, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, The Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, etc.). It’s easy to find the current Gaither Hour broadcast to watch when it’s convenient for you, and whatever your favorite Christian ministry, you can probably watch that on demand as well. Sky Angel WebTV also offers a variety of radio channels that are conveniently available in one spot so you can easily move around among them.

You can also access Sky Angel WebTV in a variety of ways. Watch it directly on your desktop computer, laptop, or netbook. I ran an HDMI cable from my netbook to my 46″ TV, which allows me to watch full-screen programming on the TV, using the great sound of the TV’s speakers. I can also watch the programming on my Kindle Fire tablet, which means I can take it with me to any location where I can access a wi-fi connection.

Doesn’t that sound like you’d be getting a LOT for $14.99 a month? There is no contract, so you pay only for months when you subscribe. Why not check it out for a month? Like I said, I’m havin’ a blast exploring all the programming today, hope y’all will check it out! (And no, I don’t work for Sky Angel!)

Explore Sky Angel Fridays

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Twitter has “Follow Fridays,” many offices have “Casual Fridays,” so I’ve decided to declare “Explore Sky Angel Fridays.” I even added it as a weekly pop-up calendar item in Outlook. The idea is that I will select a TV or radio channel I don’t watch/listen to a lot and spend time on a Friday checking out the programming that is available on that channel. Today, I am staying put on the NRB channel. So far, I have discovered “Full Circle Rewind” at 1:00 p.m. (CST). It is a magazine-format show that draws segments from “100 Huntley Street” (a Canadian magazine-format show similar to “700 Club” that is also on NRB and other Sky Angel channels). The selected segments are ones of special interest to women. Who knows what other gems I will discover on this channel as the day goes on?

Even better, since NRB is a faith channel, I can explore programming from the last 48 hours!

I also plan to check out movies on NRB, and am especially excited that NRB and Parables TV will begin their new partnership this weekend to show Christian movies.

Left Behind

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

My favorite book series of ALL TIME is Left Behind.  Left Behind is a fascinating and enlightening story of how life will be for those who are left behind in the Rapture.  The lead character is an airline pilot named Rayford Steele.  While he is flying a planeload of people from Chicago to London, the rapture happens, and many of his passengers have vanished, leaving behind only the clothes they were wearing.

The Left Behind series covers the entire seven-year Great Tribulation, and how life is on earth for those who become Christians, as well as for those who don’t.  The Book of Revelation came alive for me as I devoured these books.

As you may know, they made the first three books into movies.  All three of the movies are going to be showing on Gospel Music Channel today Sunday, 1/9/2011, from 12 Noon to 6 PM Central Time!  (Then repeated again at 6 PM Central Time.)

Be sure to catch these three movies!  Or, if you can’t see them at that time, you can catch them up to 2 days later on Video Rewind.

A Christmas Snow!

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I just discovered a wonderful Christmas movie on TBN yesterday called “A Christmas Snow”! I had never heard of it before, so had no idea what it would be when I clicked on it. It turned out to be a really good heart warming show. “A Christmas Snow” focuses on Kathleen who is very type A, driven, and a bit grinchy. Her super nice boyfriend leaves his daughter with her for an overnight trip, which turns into three days because of a crazy snow storms. What follows is a journey through faith, love, family, and forgiveness. Thrown into this mix is a mysterious drifter(Sam) that Kathleen brought home after he saved her from getting mugged in a parking lot. Lucy(the boyfriends daughter) is rather bratty at first, but turns out to be a sweet 10 year old who is really hurting. The acting in this movie is first class, and it is well done over all.”A Christmas Snow” is Dove approved, and good for the whole family. If you have the time be sure to find this gem on TBN with your 48hr playback.

Movie Review: “Hidden Secrets” - PureFlix VOD

Friday, October 1st, 2010

I think this movie has been available on Sky Angel’s VOD for some time, but I finally watched it tonight. It is a drama about family and friends who have gathered for a funeral. We learn about each character’s view of God, personal challenges, and relationship tensions with others in the group. While a sorrowful event brought the group together, God uses the occasion to change their lives for good.

The movie offers a well-written script, good character development, good acting, and nice use of humor. So far, I have liked all the PureFlix movies I have watched.

Movie Review of “Shadow Government.”

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

I watched “Shadow Government” by Grant R. Jeffrey tonight. What an eye-opener!  Much of the information was not new to me.  In a free society, the data collections are helpful.  When I call a ministry for prayer, they already know who I am by my phone number.  While this is a convenience, it could easily be abused.

A few points really bothered me.  Before the last Census, workers were hired to document the global positions of everyone’s home address.  Suppose we have a prayer meeting or party in our home.  Every guest who carries a cell phone to the meetings is on a list with dates and times.  How can this be?

Cell phones constantly send our global positions to keep us connected to the correct towers.  This information is saved and any roaming charges appear on our bills.  Government agencies can subpoena these if they suspect us of anti-government activity.  Okay, I have nothing to hide.

I had no idea that our conversations are not private-even when our phones are shut off.  In effect this is a bug, and our conversations are saved in an audio database.  This is for national security.  Obviously, no human is reading and listening to all our emails and conversations.  Still, can you just imagine what Hitler could have done with such information!

Our freedom hs been under attack for several years.  However, as Christians, we know that there will be a one world government in the future.  Could it be sooner than any of us thought?  Perhaps it is.  I am in the generation that saw Israel become a nation.  Yes, I lean toward a pre-tribulation Rapture.  Oh boy, do I hope I am right!

You can find this documentary under the new additions in Video on Demand.  It is an important movie for all of us to see and form our own opinions.

Movie Review: Blink of an Eye

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

I found Blink of an Eye enjoyable. It told an interesting story using the repeated-day theme (like Groundhog Day). It included a clear gospel message. The main character’s journey toward a commitment to Christ unfolded in steps, progressing further with each “new day.” It was a creative way to show that journey.

I have been pleased that several Christian movies I have watched recently have been well done, that was not always the case in the past. This movie may not be at the top of my list (that would be Facing the Giants), but it was worth my time and is a movie that may have an impact on someone who is not a believer. (I read the reviews at blockbuster.com and saw evidence of that in some of the comments.)

Shadow Government Movie Review

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

One of the new movies available on Sky Angel is Shadow Government.  This was a great movie to watch to understand how the technology explosion in the last century has allowed the Government to obtain more and more information about the citizens.  Although we have a right to be concerned about what is going on, the movie points out the fact that the Bible prophesies these things and that if we study the Bible, we can understand what is going on and should not be fearful.  This movie pointed out many things that are coming down the road that we were not aware of so it was good to be mindful of what to watch for.

We are thankful that we are Christians and know that our belief in Jesus Christ will allow us to understand the workings of evil and how to deal with it.

Movie Reviews

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

I always appreciate posts about movies someone has watched from the Sky Angel OnDemand offerings. I am cautious about “hitting that button” to spend extra dollars — it helps so much to know beforehand what others think about the movie. If I am considering a VOD movie, I often plug the title in at blockbuster.com so I can read about it and read reviews before I make my decision. Please continue to post about the movies you choose on Sky Angel VOD. It would be helpful if everyone would use “Movie Review:” as part of the title for a post, would make it easy to “catch” those posts. Thanks!

I plan to watch several of the movies in the PureFlix section. Today, I’m watching “Blink of an Eye,” will post comments on it later.
